Tinuy-An Falls: Philippines’ Little Niagara

Tinuy-An Falls: Philippines’ Little Niagara

Just last September 2009, Wayne and I decided to go surfing in Siargao, Surigao del Norte for a week. However, Surigao del Sur has always been one of Wayne’s dream destinations in the Philippines because of its “Tinuy-an Falls” in Bislig City so we decided to add this in our itinerary and ended up doing an 8-day backpacking trip around Mindanao.

Situated at the Southeastern coast of Mindanao facing the Pacific Ocean, Surigao del Sur’s Bislig City is 158 km south of Butuan, 152 km south of Tandag City and 208 km northeast of Davao City. It may be reached via a 6-hour bus ride from Davao or a 5-hour bus ride from Butuan.

Mahatao, Uyugan and Ivana are considered as 6th class municipalities of Batanes located in the southern part of Batan Island.

We were supposed to go to Ivana, Mahatao, and Uyugan on our fourth day but the typhoon spoiled our plans. It was past midnight when the rain poured and I noticed that the aircon has been turned off. At first I thought, one of my friends turned it off because the weather outside made the temperature colder. So I just went back to sleep. But when we woke up the next day, we found out that we had no electricity due to the heavy rain outside. This is how a typhoon looked like in Batanes:

Batanes, Philippines

Batanes, Philippines

Since this is going to be our first entry for this travel blog, I would like to impart with you the very first trip that Wayne and I had ever shared.

Last September 2008, after so many days of whining and mocking, me and Al finally gave in to Wayne’s request and decided to join her in witnessing the splendid scenic spots that can be found in the northernmost part of the Philippine islands, Batanes.
