Conquering Mt. Tapyas in Coron, Palawan

Mt. Tapyas is one of the popular destinations and the second highest place in Coron town in the province of Palawan, Philippines. It is one of the mountains in Busuanga and its base is accessible by a 5 to 10-minute walk from the pier and town proper. The mountain stands 210 meters while its cross is more than 2,000 feet above sea level.

The way to Mt. Tapyas is situated just beside a community basketball court where you can see a flight of steps on the side which will lead you to the entrance of the trail. The climb to its the peak will take you less than an hour but may also vary depending on your physical condition.

Calauit Safari Park: A Taste of Africa in Busuanga, Palawan

On our third day in Coron, Palawan, my boyfie and I woke up early, got ready for our Calauit Safari tour and then left Coron Village Lodge at around 5.15 a.m. We decided to travel by boat since we planned to do some island hopping after our trip.

Calauit Game Preserve and Wildlife Sanctuary (CGPWS) also known as the “Calauit Safari Park” is dubbed as the Philippines’ local version of the African Safari. The island has been declared as a game preserve and wildlife sanctuary by virtue of the Presidential Proclamation No. 1578 which was issued on August 31, 1976 during the Marcos regime. It has a total land area of approximately 3,760 hectares and is situated within Calauit Island in the northwest corner of Busuanga, the main island of the Calamianes, Northern Palawan.

Coron Village Lodge Review

Coron Village Lodge Review

Accommodations in Coron can get quite expensive so I’ve decided to search the Internet for a list of affordable accommodations for our 6-day stay last November 2008 in the island. After doing some researches and reading reviews of these accommodations, we have finally decided to make our reservation at Coron Village Lodge.

Coron Village Lodge used to be an old 5-room family house of the Fernandez’s which was then converted to a real lodge and now comprises of 22 rooms. It is situated along the main road in the town of Coron and is a 5 to 10-minute walk to the market, to other restaurants and to the wharf.

Coron, Palawan: Philippines’ Untouched Beauty

Last July 2008, while I was browsing the Asian Spirit’s (now known as Zest Airways) website and was searching for flights bound to Batanes, I stumbled upon some great photos of a new, unknown-to-me destination in the Philippines, Busuanga.

I tried to Google it and was truly fascinated with what I found – loads of stunning snapshots of Busuanga and Coron in Palawan. I told myself, this really is a must-see place so I immediately added it on my list of dream destinations in the Philippines.
